2003 XLT V6
I noticed twice in the past week that my 2003 Explorer XLT V6 when accelerating going uphill it starts "skipping" or "hesitating" like the front axle is engaging then disengaging quickly. It continues doing this until the truck is shutoff and sits a while then seems ok again.

Would this situation have anything to do with a bad 4x4 module or could it be tranny or rear/front axle related?

a friend of mine's dad had an 05 explorer and the auto 4wd kept engaging and disengaging on the small hill in their driveway to the point that it would hesitate long enough for the truck to drift backwards. took it back to ford and had the rear diff replaced, apparently this was a problem for quite a few trucks.. or so he heard.
