I was wondering if anyone knew of the possibility of swapping a electronic 4x4 to a 2wd mabee Pre runner lifted front end I never use 4x4 2wd gets me where I need to go Mabee I can get better Gas Milage to.
if you really want just a 2x instead of a 4x (who would? but thats my opinion and im entitled to it under article 1 of the bill of rights in the constitution)sell your 4x and go get a 2x and use the extra money modifying it
I don't think it would be that much of a gas difference, maybe 2mpg. But I guess you could only profit from it by selling the front drive shaft and amybe sell the auto locking hubs and get manuals.
I converted my 2wd to a 4x4. There is almost no change in the gas mileage at all. Not worth the money to convert to save gas. Plus it is not the easiest thing to do... But you can find out more what you will have to do here:
I converted to 2wd from 4wd on a 93.. goto Dead Link Removed to see the truck.. I did it so I could lower it.. not for any other reason.. its hard though and not very cost effective.. I need to sell the old parts.. but no one wants them
BarberJ! You know I have been giving you the hook up right? Well I am still wanting to convert my 2wd jacked up truck to 4wd. Let me know what parts you have and we may be able to make a deal.
I'm just a lowley ranger owner, but why on earth would you ever trade for a 2wd on purpose. This doesn't register right w/ me. The gas mileage wouldn't be increased all that greatly, and I am sure you will regret it someday. You'll be sitting there thinking ohh crap shoulda kept that 4wd. Only practical reason I can think of is to slam it to the ground, but I'm not sure how good that would look on an explorer.
I want to go to a pre runner set up loosing the front axle and lifting the truck. The front axe is high maintenance junk and I never use the 4x4 anyway even when I am running out in the desert.
