5.0 AWD vs. 4.0 4x4.

Ya I can't complain it drives good an is solid going to get the windsheild done the day I actually pick it up I only put a deposit down and agreed to pay the rest when we switch the title saturday. I wanted like the computer in the center console buy it wasn't worth the amount I would have to pay. The guy who owned it was 60 years old.

It was dark out so I didn't get a good look underneath but it didn't look too bad

Good purchase dude. The 5.0 is the way to go.

I did all the timing chain maintenance to my sohc and aside from a starting issue I am working through, it runs great. I just don't expect it to run as long as the 5.0 in my sport.

Sounds like a heck of a deal really. Even if it needs a few parts here and there its a solid platform that is reliable. Like they said, abs light is probably a bad or dirty sensor. Get the CEL code read and let us know what it is. I'm curious. Good luck with it!

$85 will get you a Ultra Gauge that has all the trip computer functions that you would have had with the center console computer..... and a hell of allot more. I,m running one in my 97 and love it. Wait a bit befor you buy it though. I am working with them to develope one that reads the transmission temp also. keep your eyes open for my reports on that.

what would be really cool would be to integrate it into a gps tool.....

alright guys i picked her up replaced the windsheild and mirror. everything is great. has a tick when cold and im pretty sure its a manifold leak. any way to be sure with out replacing the manofold yet? I changed the oil and threw 10w-40 and no change. Only at idle not if i rev it at all

Could be a leak at the manifold, could be a cracked manifold, could be a leak from the EGR tube or EGR bung, could be a leak from either of the two DPFE hoses or even the EGR itself. Best way is to get in there with a stethoscope and try to pin point it, or use a sheet of paper on a non windy day and find the spot where it gets blown around. Word of advice: if it is the hoses, they're special. Regular emissions hose or rubber hose will burn up and disintegrate. RockAuto.com has the actual replacement hoses, I think it's ten bucks for both of em.

You have a little left on your budget, onece it is running good you can do a transfer case swap and have a v8 4x4.

the tick is commonly on the passenger side exhaust manifold. like OBIE said it could just be the gasket, or the manifold may be cracked, or it could be the EGR tube, or a DPFE hose. mine just needed a new gasket, but all of the other causes are common to this engine. you just gotta track it down. 10w40 oil is too thick. switch back to a 5w30 full synthetic or synthetic blend (I use Motorcraft Synthetic Blend in both my V8's with Motorcraft filters). if you end up replacing the manifold and decide to use a Dorman piece, be sure the bolt holes line up correctly, as someone recently used one and had to enlarge the holes to get it to bolt on. personally i don't like Dorman, but a new Dorman is probably better than an old used salvage yard piece.

keep us up to date on your progress.

Will keep you guys up to date. if i end up replacing the gasket i will just do new manifolds. How hard is it usually. the exhaust is rotted out but that is the extent of the rust. i will take pictures hopefully this week. I couldnt wash it beccause i got the windsheild replaced and they said not too for 48 hours.

Weel guys i have been busy so here is a pic of my mounty and my mustang with its new rims.

it never hurts to have a little extra capacity. my Monty's turned out really nice. only minor things needed fixing and a i did a ton of cleaning/detailing. my wifes been driving it, and says she likes it better than my Eddie Bauer. i don't know why she thinks this, as the only difference is one's red and one's blue. other than the EB having 16" wheels and the towing package they're identical, but i'd rather she doesn't drive my truck anyway.

did you ever find/fix your ticking noise?

No im pretty sure its manifolds. I went to 10w-40 and didnt help added a addative didnt help and then threw some seafoam in the oil 100miles before i changed it to mobil1 sythetic no change. It doesnt do it on first start up and than as it slowly warms up i can hear it. But if i turn the truck off for 5 minutes it goes away until it heats the manifolds again. It goes from nothing to a Whoosh sound and then a tick when fully warm. Plus if i give it alot of gas i can hear it get louder on accel. and its more of a woosh like an enxauslt leak. Im waiting until summer to worry about it.

i hate dealing with exhaust systems. everything's always rusty, stuck and tends to snap off. a good penetrent and heat are your best friends.

True but most of the exhaust is rotted anyways so most of its going to be replaced. I have a couple of impacts (elec and air) angle grinders etc. so im not too worried just going to soak it a couple of days with pb blaster
