Friend rolled her sploder and killed the trans (93) might want to run a 5.0 for the dunes. I will be swapping her trans, and thought WTF, I wonder if it can be done..

Not two days later after I agreed to do hers, the trans in my 92 took a crap, so now I get to do two tranny swaps this week. Yahoo!!!!!!!

do a search for engine swaps.. tis been done several times by many people and htere are writeups on it.... its not going to jsut be a standard bolt in swap... and the a4ld cannot handle the v8

not only can the trans not handle the V8, it wont even bolt up :)
The 4.0L family of engines are a 60 degree V6 and the 5.0L is a traditional Ford 90 degree. :) thats just the start.

There are plenty of 5.0L Gen I's running around if you are interested., teh Easiest and cheapest 5.0L to put in there is a 96-97 Explorer 5.0L

I am actually having trouble finding any threads about swapping out.

Will a engine/tranny/xfer case from a 96/97 bolt into a 1st gen? My dad has a 96 v6, and I hate the xfer case, its awd(auto)/hi/lo. Will the xcase from a first gen bolt onto an auto from a 5.0 explorer?

I can get a 5.0 for 100 dollars, would it be cheaper to just find a trans from a 96-97 explorer or earlier stang? I know the newer style tranny on my dads sploder has a lot more electronics to it, than mine. He just had to replace a solenoid in the valve body. Mine doesnt have any electronic crap. How will that play out in the swap?

I am new to explorers, but not new to wrenching. I ahve a few International's. Scout II's etc.

from what i have heard on here is that a 5.0L engine with a AOD from a mustang/lsc/t-bird/cougar and a AA adaptor to run the stock transfer case from the Explorer onto the above mentioned tranny.

I am doing the search for this to do on my 92 Xplorer

try the link in my signature, basically the conversion I have almost completed is exactly what you are talking about, except my BII is not a Gen I Explorer, though they are identical from the windshield forward.

Also several other members on this board have completed many variations of this converision.

v8 swap on a '93? never heard of one... well except mine, have you tryed looking in the projects area in the offroad section?
