Fellow explorer enthusiast,

I have put off this problem but I am now dead in the water. I have a 2001 explorer sport trac with a 5.0 and no vehicle speed sensor. My emergency question is whether or not I can wire both abs control modules in parallel or what would be required move a 98' explorer abs brake unit to my truck. Dose my abs module also compute vehicle speed but the wire is not being used? The donor truck is a early 98' (97) AWD and mine is a 2001 job 2. The abs modules themselves look identical but from research I know that they have different part numbers.

thankyou for help and time,
Don D.

Oh wow...this was just discussed on a thread. I believe your OE PCM handles the VSS signal, correct? It "conditions" the signal and distributes it? Of course, your current PCM doesn't do that and you are right...it needs the earlier ABS module. If I can find the thread where it was discussed, I'll post it up here. There was a member who had an idea of how to handle it. It's not a clean deal that's for sure.

You know, there are some aftermarket solutions for VSS signals. Have you investigated that possibility?

How did you incorporate your harnesses? Do you still have the 01 ABS harness? I don't think switching to the earlier ABS module will help you if you do will it? No signal outputs built into that harness. I guess maybe you could wire it yourself if you can figure out how to get the signal on all the harnesses in your truck that need it.

THANK YOU GUYS!!! this helps alot... I also sent rewenzing a message and he sent me instructions on how it could be done.
