i was reading on here that a 5.0 mustang engine can be put in a ford explorer. i was wondering how the 4wd system works with the mustang engine? i like the idea of the mustang engine because of all the different supercharger kits out there for them. some advice would be apperciated.. thanks

You need to do a search.............search for 5.0L conversion and start reading......

I have '89-93 mustang 5.0 HO in my 4dr which ways 6000+ lbs. The engine does not produce enough torque in my opinion. Oh ya, I have 33" tires 4:10 gear and a stout AOD trans. I'm also at 5820ft above sea level. I too like keeping the "mustang" belt driveline for future crazy mods.

Keep in mind newer "mustangs" use the shorty waterpump so the aftermarket will make and does already make screw superchargers for this belt line.

The stock HO heads and intake do not produce enough torque to move the explorer. I believe you have a sport...this may be less of an issue for you? If I did it again I'd put a 347 stroked 302 with good heads and GT 40 intake. All that take some $s. For less $s use a 1996 Explorer with GT40 intake and heads. I don't care for the "P" heads because it limits header choices.

There is plenty more info out there...search...

No bodies just money ;)

5360 1993 4dr gross vehicle weight

custom rock sliders + 100
steal wheels with large tires + 50
custom rear bumber + 100
tuffy storage box + 250 with all my off road gear
Add gas and me and my explorer should be just at 6000lbs

 where do you get that weight. Our 4dr 94' weighs about 1000lbs less, the 4drs weigh around 4200lbs for a 1st gen. Your saying it ways as much as a Suburban stock:confused: 1st gens are light then 2nd gens, and a 2nd gen weighs around 4600lbs with the 3rd gen being about 200-300lbs heavier than a 2nd gen.

xploher...... go to the conversion part of this board. Lots of info concerning V8 conversions can be found there.

Use a 1996 Explorer 5.0 engine....... they are better suited for an explorer........ and they use Cobra mustang parts. The 1996 Explorer Motor is a step above the mustang HO motor.

gross vehicle weight is the weight of the vehicle PLUS all that it is rated to carry. gross vehicle weight is not the actuall weight of your truck. your X weighs somewere around 4400lbs. + your other mods.

Hey thanks for the correction. Ok, so now my explorer weighs something close to 5000lbs. Now I can eat more! :)
