I have a 1998 explorer that had the wheel bearings in the front come off I have a v8 explorer that I could rob parts from so i pulled the front diff out of the one 96 and put that in my 98 according to the vin the trans and the front diff are the same the only thing I'm afraid of is the ratio is different I have only had it in for a very short time and it's all ready starting to whine so I have parked it the one I pulled parts off of has the same trans code as mine and the same front diff as mine but where it should say the gear ratio it is blank on the parts rig should I just pull the rear end out of the parts rig and put it in mine ? or ???? any help would be appreciated

Skip the trans, they are all the same for those. You want to know if the gear ratio is the same, that's the diff code on the door jamb VIN tag.

If both trucks were 302's, then both have the same ratios, only 3.73's were used with a 302. V6 trucks sometimes had 4.10's due to 4WD or when ordered.

All Ford rears have a tag on them, and that has the ratio printed on it.
