I am in the middle of swapping a 5.0L into my 92.

And I have a 'stock' set-up question for you guys.

How much clearance is there between the front of the fan blade, and the Radiator?

I am trying to get my motor mounts installed, and I need this info please.

I cant tell you anything about the clerance of them. but i can tell you that the way that i swapped mine out (stock L6 to 350 SB in my 74 Nova) is that i had to line the tranny up first where it should be, and then mount the motor mounts where they happen to lie. Dont know if it would be the same, but thats how i had to do it.

Well, there are two different measurements. Up to 2000 or 2001, (can't remember) they used a thicker radiator and the measurement is about 3.5 inches or so. Maybe 4" at the very best. The later models had a thinner radiator and you got appx an additional inch. Search for a thread dealing with the installation of Mark VIII fans in an Explorer. It talks more about it.

you need to clear the dual sump oil pan and get the upper intake off of the firewall. Your oil drain plug needs to clear the passenger beam pivot bracket.
Your oil filter re-locator needs to clear the steering box
Then you center the engine (not actually centered on these trucks) and get it as low and as far back as possible, the passenger side manifold has to clear the heater box, the d side exhaust has to clear steering, driveshaft (4x4) and the firewall

Your trans mount will end up CLOSE to where your old A4LD was, but not dead on

I can get the measurement from my 96, but I have a body lift so its off a bit I imagine
the fan is like 1" from radiator, its quite a bit of space.
ON your Gen I truck its not going to be the same at all, even with the serpentine short front explorer dress, explorer timing cover, you are going to have to put your radiator in or under your current radiator support :)

I had my engine in and out, hanging on the hoist, about 6 times before I realized the L&L mounts placed the engine just about as far back and down as far as possible in my 4x4 with no body lift, so instead of changing them I let them place the engine for me! Lucky me!

Let us know what you come up with!

I have a Brand New Ford Racing Dual Sump Oil Pan w/ Pickup and 1 pc. Gasket

I am getting the Canton 90* Oil Filter relocation adapter.

I am going to run a 4.0L A/T Radiator in the stock location.

I didn't have an A4LD, I had a 5 speed.

I am swapping out the `92 Firewall for a `97 so I have additional clearance for the exhaust around the brakebooster, and HVAC box.

This should be interesting.

with the 5.0L fan on the front of that engine I dont think you are gonna get the 4.0L rad in there just like stock! No room I dont think :)

hmm...

I'm going to go measure it RIGHT NOW...

Okay, back from the garage...

With the Stock 4.0L A/T Radiator installed in my `92, there is 29 1/8" from the Spotweld seam near the top of the Firewall (just above the HVAC box, and brake booster) to the back (engine side) of the radiator.

With the stock 5.0L Fan in place, from the face of the Fan to back of the intake, it measures 28".

The Stock 5.0L Fan is 3 1/8" thick (measured from the waterpump pulley face, to the face of the thermo clutch.

With an Electric fan, I can have the stock 4.0L radiator in place.
