5 speed starter location??

Reading through my Haynes manual I found only one thing where it talks about harnesses on the trans and that's for the reverse light. However, looking through the wiring diagrams, I'm thinking it could possibly have something to do with the cruise control? But DO NOT take my word for it on that lol.

The only reason I don't think/know it's not a neutral safety switch is that the NSS is for an auto trans (keeps the starter from operating unless in park or neutral...for the manual trans, that "safety switch" is in the clutch/starter interlock switch, mounted on the shaft of the master cylinder, keeping the starter from operating unless the clutch is fully depressed.

Yea I know about that one.I have remote start so I had to disable that.there also is a cruise kick off wire on the clutch shaft..problem is even with the ebrake on (remote start safety switch) if I do forget to take it out gear it will start and drive down the road.ive had it happen once and thank god I cut it off right before it hit my boys car!!!

I was pretty sure the trans didnt have a nss but then I seen two plugs on the trans and dont know what they are for.I assume one is the reverse lights but cant figure out what the other is.all the break downs I find dont tell either :(

Ive been thinking of tapping into the rear abs sensor so if the truck moves it would kill the motor during remote start but problem with that is, I would need to park where no voltage is being sent or else it wouldn't start to begin with...

Personally I'd get rid of the remote start (but that's part of my thinking that with technology, everyone is getting lazy and we won't get into that right now) and not have to worry about the wires...the one IS for reverse, but it would be kinda nice to know what that other wire is for. Llet us know if you figure that out (I'll look into it myself as well.) The ABS idea sounds good though...more of a NMSS than NSS (not moving safety switch lol!)

Lol I hear yea.I dont have ac or anything. I use it to start my truck and let the motor warm up before I drive it, keeps doors locked, kills itself if you break in and shuts off once warm....or just to show off!!! Lol

Would be nice to know what that plug is even if I cant use it tho

It's a neutral switch. IIRC, It kills the cruise control if you pull it out of gear without pressing the clutch. It may have other uses too, I don't know. I used that switch for my remote start when I did the manual swap on my Explorer Limited.

Is it..sweet!!! Your the man!! :) its the one on the drivers side correct??

Another of topic question. .how many qts should this tranny take (new)?? Atf right? I can use synthetic and not hurt anything correct?should I use any additive like lucas or anything?

I wondered if it had something to do with the cruise...would that be considered a neutral safety switch then snoranger?

I used Amsoil 80w-90 synthetic gear oil for the trans when I swapped it to my XLT. Seems a lot of guys use different things though, and you're the second I've heard say to use ATF... my father said it took ATF and I thought he was crazy.

Yes, use ATF. Synthetic or conventional... Your choice (IIRC, Ford calls for Mercon V.) You'd be wasting your money with additives, just use quality fluid. Do not use gear oil, I've heard too many stories of M5ODs not lasting with gear oil in them.

Did you seal the shift rail plugs or install freeze out plugs?

IDK what Ford calls it... I like to call it a neutral sensing switch.

Hmm, looks like I'll be changing out my fluid...the transmission has felt better with the gear oil though, but the manufacturer probably knows best. Thinking of going with this, unless there are other suggestions.

The shift rail/freeze out plug question was for who?
