2009 xlt … Randomly I’ll start the explorer cold or warm and it will shift from park but it will roll in neutral with the shifter just gliding reverse to drive like it’s broken , put it back in park and rev the rams to 2500-3k and it shifts fine no slipping or jerking, already changed the filter and fluid nothing in the magnet it has 174k miles , is this a possible solenoid issue ? Or a symptom of one?

Could be.

How often does this happen?

I’d want to check line pressure and see what’s going on. It sounds to me like it’s pressure dependent…revving spins the pump up, and the increase in pressure gets things working again….

These transmisions have known issues with certain things as they age (over 60K miles) such as the solenoid block, valve body gaskets, and the servo bores wearing. Your transmission has close to 3X this mileage so these things need to be taken care of. Do you see a check engine light or a flashing overdrive light?

I changed the solenoid block and valve body and a year later still drives fine but I have to rev the engine to 3k rpms

That's not normal, any DTC's?
Common problem...

No codes , drives fine , read somewhere it can be a drain back issue with an o ring that can be the cause inside the trans

Could be the line pressure relief valve nr.7.
If i look at SONNAX, read the symtoms, high RPM...
Maybe you mean this with the drain back issue?

I have seen several of those line pressure relief valves stick, which can cause an intermittent no-movement situation. We install a Sonnax or Transgo valve into every one we rebuild. I would bet this is where the problem is.
