Hi, I am posting this thread with hope to help anyone who has the same issue as i had.
I han issue with fuel pressure, code P008A, P0087.
Did a lot of research and a lot of people fixed this issue by changing the hpfp( high pressure fuel pump), so I did that. Didnt fix the issue.
Send the car to an autoservice nearby they did a diagnosis which cost me 162$ and concluded that the issue is with the fuel pump in the tank.
They said that it costs 2250$ to change both fuel pumps in the tank (parts and labor), I thought that it was too much and decided to cut a hole under the seat and try to fix it myself.
Once I replaced the main pump, I checked the codes with my OBD 2 reader and it got values of 570 kpa, which was the desired pressure, did a few tests and kept getting the same good results luckily, so I did not change the other pump (sender unit), the whole thing cost me only 320$.
280$ was the pump with lifetime warranty from oreillys.
40 $ the metal sheet and adhesive.
So far the car doesn't smell like gas nor do i hear a noises.

Thanks for posting this. We have threads showing how to do this on the earlier Explorers, but I think this is the first for the 5th gens. I'll set you up with some Elite Explorer membership time for your work.

If anyone needs more details about this. I am happy to help.

That is beautifully done.

Thanks for posting this! I'm battling a P0087 code myself and may try this job as opposed to dropping the tank. Any idea if the the opposite side could be cut similarly to replace the sending unit?

I just had the pleasure of experiencing my fuel pump going out on my 2019 Ford Explorer Sport. I was trying to find how to replace it and got very overwhelmed when I saw you had to remove half the car just to get at the fuel pump. Im so glad I came across this forum and saw your post. I managed to do exactly what you did in the photos above and was able to replace my fuel pump in less than an hour. Thank you for sharing this!

There must be a reason for Ford to not provide an access cover for this repair work.
It would certainly help Ford mechanics as well. I did the same access cut on a non-ford vehicle once.
