I think i have decided to get a 6.5 for each one of my doors. What kind of mods do you have to do to make them fit if any? and does anyone know what the deepest 6.5 is that will fit in all 4 of the doors?Thanx

They make 6x8 plates that basically look like a 6x8 but have wholes cut for 6.5 or 5 1/4. i've never had a 6.5 not fit into the door so i dont know the deepest depth.

Hope that helps

by the way, i have some for sale......... Dead Link Removed

I also have the same question! I know crutchfield sells the 6x8'' to 5 1/4'' adapter, but will that also work with a 6.5''?? Maybe the adapter itself will also need some slight modifications.

/update

I emailed crutchfield about the 5 1/4'' adapter, and they say 6.5'' wont fit in it. He suggested purchasing a 12x12 sheet of raw plastic from them and making it myself. He also said I may need to modify my door. I am sure others here have installed 6.5'' speakers in the doors, how have you done it??

you'd be better off modding the 5.25" plastic plates. the blanks are OK but you'll have to more work and find a thicker one or double up. All you need is those thick clippers to widen the hole. Its a good idea to get som damping material and stick it to the back side of the plate touching the metal on the chassis.

I fit 6 1/2's in my doors of my 2001 Sport with NO cutting and NO adapters. Just bolted right up. I might of just got lucky though.:D

Hey man ive got a 2000 as well and when i went to install my 6 and a halfs this is what i did. I unbolted the speaker then stuck the speaker in the hole with the little plastic spacer still left in. I rotated it around to where the most mounting holes of the speaker overlapped the plastic spacer. Then i zapped it it in with some screws. I hope your speakers fit though, my kappas are pratically touching my window.

Its worked amazingly well, no vibrations or anything.
