First, I know the rules about searching. Just couldent find anything usefull within the first five pages so I posted here.

I have a '97 Explorer 8.8 with 3.73s and a ford factory limited slip. What automatic and selectable lockers will fit this without having to replace the carrier. Thanks alot!

Isn't the T-lock or something the "drop-in" locker that just replaces the guts of the carrier?

This unit isn't very streetable if I remeber right though, it ratchets and clanks alot.

Powertrax I beleives makes both a lockright and a no-slip for the L\S carrier in the explorer. there is no drop in selectable locker, all selectable lockers replace the carrier. I've have a lock right in my truck for almost a year now and i've been very happy with it.

powertrax makes a no-slip for the l/s rear but not a lockright for the l/s (trust me, I've done a lot of searching and emailing the company.)

The No-Slip is the only locker you can get, that's I've found anyway (I've researched them all), that works with the l/s rear.

then i guess you can only get the no-slip for the l\s carrier, good to know. :)

Yep, that's all that's available. I put one in Explorereb96's L/S axle and it works quite well. After driving it, I think it works smoother than the No-Slip that I put in my open axle.

Whst is the difference between the lockright and no slip?

The no-slip is pansy's like Jdraper who don't like a little bit of clunking and clacking from the rear end :p. the no-slip and lockright work exactly the same except the no-slip operates a bit smoother with less noise. I've had a lockright in my truck for a year now and i've been very pleased with it, it's one of the best things i've ever put into the truck imo.

Wuss! I have the lockright in my Sammy ya putz!!. I had the No-slip in my X because it has mucho better road manners than the Lockrite. Maybe if you hadn't been so chincy to start with, you would have put the No-Slip in and avoided a ticket for chirping your tires! :mattmoon:

However, he's right about it being one of the best mods either of us ever did.

I highly doubt that, it sounds like you're "no slip" slips a little around turns, locked is locked it's gonna chirp under power around turns regardless. besides it doesnt count in the sammy i've seen how far you drive that to work everyday, you could practically walk! :p

i dont understand why people with a Tlock want to upgrade to a power trax or other lunchbox locker.... stick a extra .005 shim under both sides of the clutch pack and hellow detroit!
Honestly tho you can build a Trac lock pretty freekin tight and if you want to save some cash that is the route to go IMHO a rebuild kit will run you about $75us.
just my .02

I got a lockrite going in the front and I had my T-lock rebuilt when my R/P was installed yesterday. It cost me about $70 from ford I decided to do it because my spider gears were chunking. The spider set ran $60. I was pretty happy with it before, but from the looks of it, the chunks from my spider gears probably made it work like a spool! I will let you know what I think when the front goes in in a few weeks. I am afraid I will regret putting $130 in my Tlock. Remains to be seen...
