I am planning to swap a posi into my rear 8.8. When looking for a new differential, do I need to look for any specific series carrier or will any posi or trac-loc unit out of an 8.8 work? I know that with most GM rears the differentials vary based on which gear ratios they came with from the factory, thus the different carrier series. Is this an issue I need to take into consideration with my Ford? Thanks in advance for your help.

The 8.8 doesn't have any carrier break so any carrier for an 8.8 will work.

as long as it's 31 spline, but you don't want posi. You will hate the way it drives unless you don't turn. You want a locker.

Do not use the stock track loc. Use a good quality spring and gear carrier. Detroit trutrac or Torsein make good units. They do not need fiction modifiers, and they do not wear out in 30,000-miles. When you purchase, you must specify a 8.8 with a 31-spline axle.

?! Unless you're going with a selectable locker a limited slip will handle alot better on the road. Not to mention a good limited slip is alot less money than a selectable locker. My lockright has some interesting characteristics on the road that can make for some fun driving.
