techie is correct. The F150 spring is a common upgrade in Mustang and Ranger Trac-Lok diffs. While you're in there you can do the other common upgrade - more clutch packs to replace the extra steel rings.
When I rebuilt mine 2 years ago, the extra clutch plate I used was the best of the plates being replaced and it was the same thickness as the steel plate I eliminated.
Any extra width of the pack of clutch plates came from the new, thicker friction material on the new plates, not exchanging the steel plate for a friction plate.
That's what makes the S-spring harder to put back in.
Thats true - different manufacturers will have different disc thickness which will then affect the spring force on the S-spring (and I guess probably the "locker" effect of the differential).
