I bought a pair of 8k hids a few months ago, my friend recently installed 8ks into his car and have a bluer tint then mine, mine barely have any at all , such as if they were 6k, i have a 99 explorer, could the headlight housing have somethimg to do with it since its not a clear housing? Should i look into purchasing new clear euro housings? Whats you guyses input

Thanks!

Also my friemd has a civic..not an explorer

The headlight it self might change the color you see the light...

So are u suggesting getting a new headlight housing? Or a pair of new bulbs from a company online rather then from a seller on eBay

It also depends on what kind of wattage the ignitors have.
(they are those box looking things that the lights plug into)
Usually they come in a 35w and a 55w
If you have the 35w on a 8k bulb its going to look like a 6k
But it you have the 55w it should look like 8k.

personally i think a 35w is better cause its less drain on your battery. So if you want an 8k look get the 10k bulbs.
Thats if you have the 35w ignitors.

But unless you have projectors, putting a HID bulb into an open housing is mean to all drivers in front of you.

Thanks buddy ^ that helped me out alot, im just going to change out the bulb then, thank you, any brands you suggest that give off a good blue tint with 8k or even 10k?

Um, no? 55W washes out more color, meaning 35W 8000K will look bluer than 55W 8000K

Also, keep in mind, anything over 6000K isn't going to put out **** for light, its pretty much just a ricer look.... 4300-5000 is really the recommended kelvin for light output, the higher up the K scale, the less lumens the bulb puts out

I'm no expert, but I disagree about going w/ 8k's. I have them in my SS and they are amazing compared to the stock halogens. That's not to say the 6k's aren't brighter, b/c they should be. I wouldn't ever go over an 8k bulb in a headlight or driving light due to the reasons stated (diminished output at higher k's).

Comparison pics:

Same vehicles and setups, but from drivers perspective.

You can see the HUGE improvement in the 8000k HID's over the other bulbs.

Doesn't look anything like an improvement to me... I don't know what pictures you are looking at, but it looks like a lot less usable light, a short crappy pattern with wicked hotspots, and a whole lot of glare from the HID equipped vehicle... The incandescent may not be as bright, but it is illuminating a whole lot more stuff, creating better color contrast and probably won't tire out your eyes as quickly... Plus, it won't be blinding other drivers. I'd much rather stare at that soft yellowish light than that purplish blue crap coming out of those HIDs

We'll just have to disagree, then. The HID's light up street/lane markings and signs better than the stock halogens could ever hope to.

WHERE? Because it looks to me that (from the drivers perspective) the right side of the road is being lit up a lot further and more evenly, whereas I see several big hot spots on the left side, and a beam pattern that doesn't cast all the way to the curb at the end of that road.

Would you like me to go on MSPaint and outline the differences I can see?

Or are you trying to tell me that anywhere else, aside from this one road, the HIDs put out a completely different beam pattern?

Well, good luck with your horrible junk lights that make everything harder to see and annoy other drivers. Maybe some day you will upgrade to something that makes it so you can see at night.

Snarky! My kind of attitude. I will agree with ya, but try to sound a bit less harsh.

IMHO - I see the lights on the left (from the driver's perspective) look super bright. Well done. They (however) look like a puddle that doesn't reach too far beyond the vehicle - not good for highway driving at night (or driving quickly, on a dark country road (road-kill dinner, anyone?).

The lights on the right (from the vehicle that gave up halfway through the installation process, and decided to only put one set in) has a much more refined beam, although not quite as bright as the truck on the left. And the stock halogens are just crap. But we all knew that last bit.

not to take sides. but isnt the one on the right also using additional aux driving lights? which could explain the better lighting?

i personally hate HID lights coming at me down the road. Even in my big rig. so i wont install them. i consider itpunishment for other drivers.... <maybe i should install them then> ;p if only there was a way to have a sensor to detect oncoming morons so it could kick to HID mode lolz

anyways. just wanted to point out the aux lamps on.

Indeed, I hadn't noticed that before.

That means it is a useless comparison either way. Only thing one can take away from that picture is all the added hot spots and artifacts in the lighting from the HID source.
