just a thought but y dont you go with a mini spool. they are cheaper and work in the same way but without resetting the gears up.

heard the weak link with the mini spooll is the moly cross pin. the full spool doesnt have one.

the full spool does not have that and i have never heard that. i would like to know casue i have one for mine and am thinkin of putting it in

Yep, from everything i've read full spool is the way to go on the 9" (if you're going to spool it) as the cross pin is the weak link. If I were you snowboarder i'd find a 3rd member already setup with your gears and the full spool. Easy and much cheaper.

I got my third with 4.88 gears and spool rebuilt with 0 miles for 400 on ebay. i you go with a spool, try and get a non light weight spool. no use in trying to save 1/2 a pound. just get a regular spool that has all the material left on it

If anyone puts in a mini spool, definitely get a chromoly cross shaft. The 3rd member that I bought on ebay had a stocker in it...I learned the hard way (blew it into 7 pieces while wheeling one night at about 2 in the morning). The chromos are only about 11 bucks at Summit and are extremely strong in comparison to the stock one, so it's obv. worth the $$.

With a mini spool another thing you have to watch out for is the carrier blowing up too. Get a full spool.

Go full spool. Even after you replace the cross shaft the next weak link will be the stock carrier. Full spools are dirt cheap for a 9".

I never considered a mini spool, thats why i asked what type of full spool. I got the 5.13s for the 44/9" for 150 shipped, so I couldnt pass on that. Installation is free from a friend so all i really need is a spool. I guess ill just get one from an offroad store.

That looks like the spool i bought on ebay last year for my 9", but i think it is heavier then that. Pretty beefy material too. I've got it installed and under the truck, but all i've driven is from garage to the front of the house.

you should be fine with a full spool. thats what i run, never had a problem. but i only drive on the street to the gas station and back, its most of the time on the trailer.
