I need to replace my spark plug wires tommorrow before I make a long trip to see my parents. Murrays wants $90 for a set of motorcraft wires. Anyone know where I can buy a set locally for cheaper or where I can get a set overnighted? I was kind of interested in the split fire wires I heard they are a pretty good set. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you used? How is the quality. I don't wanna end up replacing the wires again anytime soon.

I've used Taylor wires. Good quality. $110.

Autolite OEM Replacement Wires less than $50. I've had them for over a year and not a single problem with them.

where did you purchase them?

I got mine at Shucks, dont know if you have them back there in Michigan. But I'm sure that Autozone, Pep Boys, or any major auto parts store should have them.

if you like your car, dont get anything there. i have a cavlier that been through 5-6 starters,3 alternators,6 icms and coils. all autozone lifetime stuff. all the new stuff for the new motor is from nap and koi. and few from gm. no offense but if its not a solid metal object with 0 moving parts, dont go to autozone, and even then, measure it first to see if its in specs. its like they sort through though the manufactures reject bins for the parts that dont look obviously messed up and sell them.

i too never had good luck with autozone stuff,

Autolite is good...

www.rockauto.com, pick up a pair of MOTORCRAFT brand for $27 =)

Motorcraft Spark plug wires, Explorer SOHC V6 > $370 is what I was quoted the other day, even the guy behind the counter said that’s a joke, and sold me a set of NGK’s for $78 down from $110 instead.

Damn, some of you guys pay a lot for plug wires. I went to advance auto and bought cheap wires for ~$30. I think the name was Xact or something cheesy like that. No complaints yet.

I too didn’t realize this before, but they are referring to the SOHC motor. Our OHV wires are much cheaper in retrospect to the SOHC wires.

i would only use motorcraft or premium aftermarket wires. These arnt something imo that you want to go cheap on.

I got wires from Ford for my 99 SOHC for about $85 last year. Find someone who can get you a decent discount. Good luck,

does everyone use 8mm wires?

stock wires are 8mm!

I could be wrong but I think Xact is the Advance auto house brand.

I use Aurora and I think they are great, but your not gonna get em in a day.

I used AutoZone wires on my 96X for over 20K miles w/no problems. Plus they had a lifetime warantee so what could be better. The ristiance was within spec. and an X motor sure doesnt need high power wires.
I bought a dud battery at AZ once and they replaced it, no problem. The alt. & power steering pump I got there worked flawlessly.
Of course it all was for the X so I cant coment on how it would work on a Cavalier.

must been cheby parts LOL

pfft. sisters chrysler, brothers taurus, all autozone parts suck as far as im concerned. i even took the time to shim the PITA starter on my cavalier every time, and the end housing actualy exploded on one, that was nice, metal bits on my clutch. another split down one side. maybe plug wires arent as big a deal, but when your away from home and the alternator goes out then the local AZ says its your battery, you get in the "is that right?" mood since you know if the battery was bad, the car would still run fine providing the alt was good. when i finaly got home, i took the alternator off, took it up to az, swapped it, took it home, installed, no problems till it went out the next year. lifetime warranties are there, cuz you need it. buy all you want there, i still go there for things like cams, pistons, rods, stuff thats solid and has no moving or electrical parts. i even remeber they tested a starter for my little brothers car, and said it was fine. we had him get a new part from the shelf and test it, it about jumped clear off the table, thats the one we took home and put on.

i'll stick with koi and oem parts that lasted for 100K+ miles before the failed.
