91 auto transmission has no forward or reverse

my 91 4.0 ranger 4wd has nothing when the shifter is moved to forward or reverse ,just like its in neutral ,it does shift out of park and it's full of fluid ,It doesn't even try to move .in any gear forword or reverse..???It has 138000 miles.. the story is my niece was driving it down the hiway and it just quit no leaks nothing ........any Ideas ???

Welcome. Have you tried to engage 4x4 and then Rev and Drive? It could also be a rear end gone out, or a broken rear driveshaft (usually would be hanging down and dragging).. If so then 4x4 would allow you to drive with the front wheels. Also check the transmission linkage. If linkage, shaft, and rear axle are working it could be a valve body issue or a transmission failure.

Welcome to this forum! Connect a 0-300 PSI test gauge onto the rear port, and take pressure readings in every gear range. 0 PSI would indicate broken pump gears.
