'91, fuel problem??

i have a '91 xlt, 4.0 that's been sitting in my backyard for about 4 years, and i'm trying to get it running again. it had a full tank of gas, which i imagine isn't great now. i put in a bunch of fuel treatment, and a new battery. it fires briefly when i first try to start it, but then nothing. if i let it sit awhile (half hour or so) it will fire again briefly, then nothing. could the fuel filter be clogged?, fuel pump? something else?? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

i would drain the gas and start with new. part of your problem may also be all the old gas in the lines.

thanks! i put in some fresh gas & some seafoam & started right up, running like a champ...

good old explorers, ain't nothing to keep em from running. well, except for bad gas...
