91 Mazda Navajo - A4LD Transmission Problem

My mazda navajo's tranny suddenly stopped working a couple night ago. It wouldnt respond in any gear besides reverse. Today, i got it running in all gears except for overdrive. Im guessing the tranny is on its way out.

i am debating whether or not to replace the tranny myself or just scrap the car. the trucks worth no more then 1500$ if i sold it and if the job is that big of a deal, i wont end up doing it. its not worth paying a mechanic to do it either.

my experience - i have built the whole top end of this engine replacing the heads, lifters, gaskets, and so on. also replaced brake lines, rotors, and a ton of other parts, so i have some knowledge of working on cars.

how big of a pain is this job going to be??

also the tranny is an auto and I believe it is a a4ld tranny.

You might take a look at the a4ld rebuild diary, I think there are actually 2 of them posted with good pictures.

Sticky at the top of each section-( sub forum) are a good place to start

if i was you i would put another one in but where i live theres a u-pull-it yard thats sells all transmissions for 89.95 which once i get home from georga im putting a m5od in my 94 navajo

i found that earlier. i dont think i have the experience to rebuild a tranny

ya called a local junkyard. they would pull it for me for 350$.. that includes a 90 day warranty.

have you put one in before yourself? is it a difficult job??

well i pulled one out but i havent put a new one in yet cuz i gotta wait for my tax return but it came out ok so it should go in the same way
