91 XLT 4x4
I unloaded my 91 Explorer XLT on some sorry sap back in November. I got paid for it, but had to let go the new 32x11.50x15 MTs & eagle alloys (2300 miles on them), my Warn 8500lb winch, winch mount, grill guard, bbk throttle body, air intake, amped stereo system, Thule roof rack system and new cat back system.
My Explorer had Daystar front coil spacers and a rear add a leaf, and Warrior shackles. All I had to do was trim a small square piece of plastic on the back of the inner fenderwell for clearance. This may have rubbed if I went all out, but I am more of a mud and snow kind of guy as opposed to the rock, log, break expensive parts and make new trails type.
I bought a 2000 Ford Ranger super cab 4dr. 4x4, with the 4.0 and a 5spd manual. The truck has 245/75/16 tires and some pretty nice American Racing alloys on it. I believe that they are 16x8s. Other than this it is stock except for the Gibson cat back system I have put on it.
I am looking for information on tire sizes to go with. I have done some research and found that the 245/75/16 is the equivelant to a 30.5x9.6. I am looking to go taller, but not necessarily wider. My 32s (on a 15x8 with 3.75" backspacing) hung out about an inch and a half and slung everything everywhere. Stock, my nose sits lower than the rear. I have not done a TT yet, but plan on it when some of the snow melts or the rain stops. I will probably only level the front to the rear. If I can get enough out of the TT to get it high enough to need an add a leaf and not look too "nose heavy" I may do it.I dont know in comparison to the X, how much room this will give me. I don't hear anyone mention truck tires in this forum. A 235/85/16 is claimed to be about 31.7x9.3 and if they make a 245/85/16 (I don't recall seeing one recently) it would be about a 32.4x9.6. I know about the heavy load range and the loss of ride quality, but I drive a truck so I expect that.
If anyone with a Ranger with the stock flares or anyone else has an opinion about this I could use any help that I could get. Will a tire this firm and only 9.3 to 9.6" wide hold a bead to a 8" rim? Will a 31.7" tall tire rub front or back being this thin? If they make a 245, it looks like I would have an extra .95" front, rear and upward with a TT to go with a 32.4x9.6. This is a little taller than my old X, but thinner, and the width is what was making it rub. My 245/75/16 is 9.6" wide now, so I guess I am asking about the height.
PLEASE anyone help me.

hmm you should be able to fit a 31"/10.5" on there stock and i would definately assume after a TT these would clear nicely

also your ranger is probably a little nose heavy, because they are already SOA in the rear if im not mistaken, but im sure its just because when/if you load down the rear it wouldnt point at the moon..

I have 16" wheels. I can't get 31x10.50s I also don't want to go with the wider tires because I want to keep them under the fenders a little more.

How far do these stick out? Or, how far from sticking out are they?

They don't really stick out that far. I'd say a little more than stock. I would go slightly wider, but I don't want to have to do ANY trimming. I know that a common size is the 265/75 but that is a 31.6x10.4 and I don't think that hey will clear with just the TT. Has anyone done that ? How far do they stick out and rub?
