92 console double cupholder?

i've seen on some 92 explorers on various web sites that they have a double cup holder on the center console the stock one is single i would really like to know where to find the double that would fit or if they truly make a double conversion kit?

On the 94 it is a double cup holder, so I assume that if you go to a scrap ward and put in a 94 console your swap would be done. Or maybe they could sell you just the front piece, but I dont know how to swap it?

I had a smashed coin holder in my 92 sport. i went to the junk yard and found the dubble from a 94 xlt. its a simple install, just peel the rubber cup holder out of the consol, unscrew all the screws, and put the replacment in. Make sure you get the longer screws with the 94 cup holders, as the 92's wont fit. It took me all of 5 minutes, and about 20 bucks

i have a double cup holder in mine and i swear ford made a big mistake. the only thing wrong with it is that the front of the holder is lower than the back. that means that when you go and brake, and you have a huge 44oz. cup full of dew, it tips forward and goes everywhere.

my 92 xlt came with the double cup holders in it from the factory. you might find one from a 92 even. you are right about the front of the holders lost more pops than i can count from them falling out of the holders. thinking about making my own console this summer if i can come up with a design that i like or trying to convert a newer model to fit right

This wasn't totally a bad thing. If i had 44 oz to drink, i'd be stoppin every 2 miles to pee

the best cup spill had to have been the time i ordered the supersize NO.6 at Mccy D's with a strawberry shake. carfully ballencing my burger on the steering wheel, i acidentally hit a major pothole. while i got the brunt of the ketchupy pickles, my truck got the shake.

i never was able to wash out all that pink.

Auto or 5 Speed ?

Hey Lazy,

I've got a '91 Sport with a single cup holder - - wanted the upgrade, too.

Since mine is a 5 Speed, I went to Ford and got the shifter boot assembly off a '98 Sport 5 Speed - - it has an integrated cup holder on the passenger side. Bolts right up in the original bracket.

Can't remember the cost, but think it was less than $20.

Ford sells a double cup holder which will fit into the 1991-1992 etc to replace the single cup holder. There was a post on this some time ago (maybe 1-2 years ago) which gave the Ford part number. I used this information to purchase the double cup holder (it took them 2-4 days to ship the part in). I would guess that a search using the words "double cup holder" would find this old post. As I recall this old post, the chap said that if you ask Ford about a double cup holder to replace the single cup holder you get the "deer in the headlights" response and something about the Ford parts folks being not too knowledgeable about such parts. This post also gives the part number and part name - so I printed out this post and took it into Ford. The Ford parts guy got a good laugh out of reading the post and as I recall his computer information indicated this double cup holder was not for the 1991-1992 Ford Explorer models. At any rate, it fit right in and is a good replacement. Good luck.
