transmission dip stick should be at the back of the engine. Mine's right next to the coil pack. It's real easy to check/add fluid.
In addition to checking the fluid, check the vacuum line that goes down to the transmission. It's acting like the transmission thinks you are at WOT all the time, which could easily be a disconnected vacuum line. If you're up to it, look into testing the vacuum modulator.

You should adjust the kick down cable, bands, and clean or replace the governor, filter, and fluid. Does this happen all of the time or just when it's cold?
