I have looked through a lot of the posts on here and have not found any that talk about changing seats. Mine is a 93 sport so needs the seats to fold up to get into the back seat. I tried the search and it wouldn't give me any results so I am trying a post. Kind of wondering if there is anything else out there that will work. Don't mind making some changes but don't want to get into a major issue. Thanks, Arne.

'What is wrong with your rear seats? Are they just torn? It might be easier to get them reupholstered.

The best places I have found for replacement seats (if you're going for OEM) is a salvage yard, and sometimes ebay. I made a thread not too long ago similar to this looking for ideas, but sadly, those are the best ones. You may try car-part.com. Other than that, maybe you can have them redone. No idea on cost for that, have never checked.

The rear seats are fine. Not even going to worry about color, just want to be able to sit in the explorer for an extended period without having it mess with my back. I was afraid you were going to come up with the j-yard ebay deal. Going to stop at a yard today and see what I can come up with. All I need is different seats, lockouts on the front, new valve cover gaskets and a new set of tires. Will be readyto take it to the lake and leave it to put the boat in and out. Arne.

So what you are asking is for better front seats? If price is a big concern, the best thing to do is go to junk yards. There were a ton of different kinds. In my Mazda B4000, the seat back is adjustable, as well as the bottom width. I'm sure some of the "fancy" model explorers like the eddie bauer editions had some nice seats. You can make just about anything work, but I'm not sure besides ranger, mazda b series, explorers (probably 2nd gen too), what would bolt up to the stock seat holes.

I almost forgot about the mercury mountaineer.

From what I gather, 2nd gen seats will work. Key difference is the adjistable thigh rest. That seems to be less commmon with 2nd gens, I saw one once, cloth upholstry. But never with the leather. Ebay never seems to have much lately. At least, not for a good price. Car-part.com usually has a good selection, but the shipping cost might be a bit hard to swallow.

Havn't found anything here close, but still looking. Probably have to find something that will fit and modify it. Don't have adj. thigh rest, mine is a sport and it just has a plain seat, no electronics, no adjustment other than forward and back and the seat back changes positions. Arne.

You seem to be having my luck, though I'm being pickier. I'm doing a gradual restoration, and want everything matching and in good shape. The seats are a pain to find for me, too.

I am going to keep looking. When I figure out what to do will let you folks know, especially if I change things very much. Arne.

I installed a set of 2nd gen powered leather seats in my 1st gen. One of the best mods done for comfort. Was like adding an awesome set of shocks.

JY score for $50 in perfect condition. ;)

One thing I noticed is 2nd gen seats don't go back as far first gen's. Its not a big deal to most, but I'm 6'5" and I have never been in a vehicle with too much leg room.

Just swap the mounting tracks. ;)

Thanks 2-stroke and gman. Arne.

You just need the front seats out of a 91-2001 sport, and then they will go up as far as they need to, and will bolt right in! :) Good luck with the hunt!

Thanks for the input, Mayjan. Arne.
