I have pulled the brake pads and taken off the grease cap. I don't see a spindle nut. How do I replace this? Thanks!

Auto or manual hubs?

Auto hubs, all stock. It looks like the rotors/studs are all one piece.

Yes the rotor is one piece all the way into the wheel bearing races. I gather you've removed the brake caliper and the outer 4x4 hub. Next to come off is the C-clip and thrust bearing/washer that holds the axleshaft in place, then the auto hub cam assembly, then the little locking keyway that keeps the wheel bearing locknut from turning, then the wheel bearing locknut (and maybe the outer wheel bearing), then the rotor.
If you don't have a manual, might I suggest getting one. It will have an exploded diagram and step by step instructions for getting it off. If you don't want a print manual try the vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com

The online instructions are ok, I'll probably still buy a manual. Are there any special tools needed? Thanks for the reply!

Not really. The hardest tool to come by might be the wheel bearing locknut socket (2-3/8 in). I got mine at Napa. Others just use a pair of channel locks or something along those lines.

Here is an article I wrote a while ago about chaning rotors (to ART rotors).

There are pictures of what you have to pull to get the rotor off.

You will need 1 special tool. It is basically a 2 1/8" socket used to take off the spindle nut.

Unfortunately I got this all taken apart before the Maniak post with help from MrShorty. That is a great write up and will help with reassembly! I noticed your spindle end is much cleaner than mine was. Anyway, I didn't have to use a lock nut wrench, I easily removed it with my fingers. I also do not have a torque wrench and cannot afford one at this time.

1-Do I need to get a lock nut wrench for reassembly?
2-Will it be safe to tighten the nut until the play is gone while the rotor spins freely?
3-If I get new bearings will they come with races I need to install or are they already pressed into the rotor?
4-Do I need to pack the thrust bearing along with the inner and outer wheel bearings?

Thanks for the replies, I would be lost if not for your help!

1&2: There are many auto parts places that loan tools out. If you can't afford a torque wrench at this time, I would definately see about borrowing/renting one.

3. My replacement rotors came with the races already pressed in. My replacement bearings also came with the races as well.
