My daughter has a 94 Explorer with an automatic transmission.

It seems like the transmission is fine, shifting nicely. While driving, if you let up on the gas pedal it drops out of gear. If you rev the engine a little it goes back in after a couple minutes.

I'm doing the single mom, putting 2 children through college, can't afford another vehicle thing right now. I'm very mechanically inclined so any ideas would really help us out.

This could cause slippage, how many miles are on the Transmission?

There are 194,760 miles on this vehicle. The engine runs great/starts right up...never have a problem with it. I don't know when the last time the fluid/filter was changed as she has only had the vehicle for 2 years.

The light was on in the vehicle so we took it to Advance Auto to have them run the scanner thing on it. So, my dad replaced a "sensor egr valve position gpso" and a "sensor throttle position gpso" as was deemed necessary to replace by the scanner. These things made the light go out, but the transmission still does the same thing. Do any of these things have to do with the transmission? Or possibly, do I have to get something reset after replacing these things?

My daughter just told me that you have to rev up the engine to get it to go into reverse also. If that makes any difference.

We changed the fluid and filter and it works nicely again.

Thank you sooooooo much!
