Compressor pulley seized today and broke the serpentine belt. I have a new belt, but obviously just replacing it makes no sense. Do the Gen 1 Ex's without A/C use a shorter belt or is there an idler pulley in place of the compressor? I can't afford to replace the compressor right now. HELP!

Oh great. I was just outside checking the situation between downpours and I noticed a new oily smear on the rainwater under the X. Could I have damaged the power steering somehow by driving it with the belt broken?

You can get a belt to bypass the AC pulley. Just tell them it's the 4.0 without air. When the belt shredded, did any of it get wrapped around the PS pump pulley? If so, you may ruptured the front seal on the pump which would cause leaking. Is the PS fluid low?

Marragtop,
Thanks for the reply; that is the best news re: the belt. I will check the pwr steering fluid level as you suggested.
:)
