Couple of days ago our EX ran great and then my husband went out at lunch at work to eat - let the engine idle and kept dieing on him. When he came home that evening it ran fine for a while and then it started to die on him. We took the vehicle to a shop and they ran all kinds of diagnostics on it took them all day - totally tore it apart - checked all of the fuel pump and relay and regulator made sure it was getting adequate pressure all things turned out great. They decided it must be the computer and replaced only for the problem to still exist. What I dont get is that it does seem to be a problem with it not getting enough gas or something - its like its starving - but the filter was changed and it didnt change anything and like I said the auto shop ran all kinds of tests on the other fuel things it could be. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on - this is out only vehicle and we are at a loss on what it could be. Thank you

I know it sounds really weird and may very well be, but our Camry exhibited that behavior when of all things, the battery was going bad. It had zero problems turning over and starting, but once started it would chug-chug (dieseling), and it would diesel when you turned the motor off. I never in a million years believed the battery was the culprit, but it was. If your battery is more than 4 years old it might be a good time to replace it. I noticed you were in TX and it gets just a tad hot down there doesn't it? Heat kills batteries. Just a thought.

Just replaced the battery a couple of months ago. So I know that cant be the problem, could it?

ell I had modified my TPS and then discovered that it was doing the same thing you are describing so I undid what I had modified and everything was fine.

throttle position sensor (TPS)

Nah,
Doesn't sound like the problem. Figured it was a long shot.

does it take it a few munites to start back up?

sounds like it could be vapor lock are the temps in the normal range or are they a little high?
edit: are you running ethonal blend gas? if you are try and run regular non ethenal blend

i have a 93 xlt it does the same and yes it takes a few minutes then runs great whats the problem

same problem man, i also have a 94.

What mine was doing sounds like yours, it wasnt sucking gas in neutral, and it would stall in neutral. Then, after driving it sometimes, when i got to start it back up, DEAD. Then other times it would be fine.

I just got mine fixed the other day, and it was the EVR Valve/Pump.

So check your EVR system and that should be the problem.

O yea, i got another if someone wants to answer this, my check engine light keeps coming on, after i got a tune up, so im thinkin this might just be a glitch in the truck, it also did it since ive had it

Hope thats helps
