I need help with a '94 Explorer XLT 4.0L 2WD auto that won't start. It cranks, and there's spark from a paper clip in plug wire to ground. Is there a simple way to see if it's getting fuel? Is there a diagnostic connector somewhere that I can use with a code reader borrowed from an AutoZone? Any obvious possibilities?

Many thanks!

the connection for to retrieve codes in under the hood on the drivers side qauter panel, but it's an old ford 1-A system so unless you have a check engine light on you wont get any info out of it. There a feul service port on the feul rail in the mddlie if the intake, it will look like a valve stem on one of your tires, thats where you can check feul pressure with a gauge.

On occasion I've got lots of information out of my EEC-IV vehicles even when the CEL doesn't come during normal operation. Especially in no start cases. Between my notes on pulling EEC-IV codes and Brooklynbays code list thread, you should be able to figure out how to get trouble codes. Of course, if the CEL doesn't come on before starting, that indicates a problem with the computer (probably not getting power).

As noted, check fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Glacier991 has a good "mini diary" in the stickies of this forum. (As with a lot of issues, probably should get in the habit of checking those stickies before posting.)
