Asking for Brother so I'll give you what I know.

'X' was sitting for 2 years.

Wont accelerate.

I assume a clogged Cat. Needs a new exhaust anyway so he brings it to have a Cat -back new exhaust. He is told the Cat is fine. still has sluggish issues.

He runs a tank of Techron through it, no help.

My next step would be Fuel Filter, Clean MAF and go from there.

Any thoughts on Injectors being gummed up?? It took me 6 hours to do the lower intake manifold on my '91. What is the hours to get down to and replace the Injectors? I'm thinking about the same as the Intake gasket change...no?

Wouldn't he get CODES if the injectors were clogged??

On a '94, not necessarily. EEC-IV/OBD-1 isn't near as sensitive to faults as OBD-2/EEC-V.

2 years of sitting isn't good for a truck. A few things I might do:

1) Drain fuel tank and refill with fresh gasoline. Change fuel filter.
2) Check spark plug wires.
3) Check other wiring for sign of damage.
4) Check vacuum hoses for damage.
5) Check for critters (mouse nest?).
6) Check/clean fuel injectors (Probably not the first thing I would do if it meant pulling the injectors out).

My thoughts too. He's jumping on this injector change and I was trying to get him to look elswhere first.

New Plugs.. My casual look at the wires were they looked good. Not all beat up but that doesn't mean they aren't breaking up electrically.

The air filter was like new, no nests.

I didn't hear any vacuum leaks while I had my head under the hood.

Your comment, I wouldn't jump on the Injectors was reassurance to me too. Not to mention it's going to be in the 20's this weekend.

A good way to check the plug wires is at night. Crank it up, let it idle and raise the hood and see if it lookes like the 4th of july under the hood. If the wires are bad it will be arcing out of the wires. Just a thought. I would try the simple stuff first. Then work up. IMO

One trick my instructor at college had mentioned is to get a spray bottle of water and set it to mist and spray the plug wires, if there are issues with the wires you'll hear it arcing (and likely see it) and the engine will start stumbling and missing.

I need to do this on my X because I'm haveing some hesitataion problems myself, along with an erratic tach.

Start with the normal maintenance items: fuel filter, plugs and wires....

Don't know if you found the problem but check the bottom of the air intake tube. It may be rotted out and sucking air through the hole and not through the Mass .

you may also have a fuel pump problem...the reason they tell you not to run your fuel empty is because the fuel actually lubricates the pump...if it has been sitting for 2 years i believe this is also a possibility along with several other possibilities...as in your whole fuel system...have you tried reading for codes...i beleive the obd-1 can be read for free at autozone and if you have a chilton or haynes manual i believe you can use a jumper wire to read codes...the info on how to is in those manuals...

How do you get the filter out once the shield is removed? I can see where it connects, but damn those connectors are a pain for someone who doesnt know how to disconnect em...Help! Also where can SeaFoam be bought at?
