Ok so i just finished my trns swap and got everything put back together after it had to sit for a few months... everything seems to be connected and what should be in working order the only thing off is the passenger side exhaust manifold and the rest of the y-pipe and the rest of the exhaust. (bolts at the flage broke had to pull off exhaust manifold to drill out old bolts) i have the 02 sensors plugged in and tied up over to the side (according to a mechanic friend of mine it would still start but just run lean or rich for the few minutes i was going to see it if it even started and rn knowing it would run rough) would not having the pass side exhaust manifold and o2 sensors not plugged into any exhaust piping be cause to make it not run? and if not where are some other spots i should check? thanks in advance

is it turning over? have you checked normal things like fuel spark?

is it turning over? have you checked normal things like fuel spark?

yes the engine turns and will just crank and crank...it seems like its cranking at a faster rate than normal too... as for fuel and spark its on my list to check tomorrow when i get back out to the truck

did you do the wiring stuff for the trans?

did you do the wiring stuff for the trans?

yes all the transmission and transfer case wiring is hooked up and i cleaned all the electrical connectors im heading out there soon to do my fuel and spark checks... what would cause the engine to crank at what i feel is alot faster speed? would this have anything to do with the exhaust manifold being not connected to the heads?

i dont think it would matter if the manifolds are connected but why not put them on?

i dont think it would matter if the manifolds are connected but why not put them on?

well i havent pulled the drivers side off yet but when disconnecting the y=pipe the bolts broke off causing me to have to pull the manifolds off and drill out the old bolts...i didnt get anything trested today due to rain but i did get the pass exhaust manifold ready to put back on... being as in the explorer is up in the pasture working on it is a pain so if i could get it started i wanted to drive it down and get it in the garage now that the other vehicles are out. thats why i wasnt concerned about getting the manifold back on cuz it would have been drove for just like maybe 100 yards into the garage... also from another source a retired mechanic told me running the engine without the exhaust manifold would burn up the valves causing major engine issue...anyone else have info to chime with this thought? i'd rather not risk and know im safe lol

well after not being able to get the bolts of the drivers side exhaust manifold yet i went ahead and put the passenger side back on... after being told driving without even a short distance would burn up my valves didnt wanna take the risk...but now im still at the starting issue... i went to change my fuel filter thinking maybe its clogged up due to the gas sitting in it so long... but i cannot get the lines apart with the little plastic tools... and onto the other issue it seems i have no spark. i pulled the plugs one by one and tried cranking it with one out at a time and none of them sparked. I swapped the ignition coil pack off from another engine that i knew ran and still have no spark. and then onto the worst part in my eyes im also not hearing the fuel pump kick on. how would i test that issue? can sitting for 6 months not being started really cause this many issues? any and all help is appreciated

im in the same spot man i just swaped for a new mottor and everything is completely hooked up right.i even bought a code reader but nothing..it just cranks and cranks..i have replaced almost every wire component and cleaned everything i mean the things sparkiling clean but nothing..i have spark and fuel but nada...so if any 1 want to buy a lifted 93 with full glass and 1 piece clip haha but yea just go to kragen and buy a code reader for 29.99 and it helps alot..ohh and fyi i think on that year they made that magnet thing on the passenger side under the dash.if the magnets break it will crank over but not start.so check it and reset it .there a lil button right on it..bump for some help lol

yeah i was just gonna suggest that magnet thing under the dash. thats the problem when mine would just crank and no start.

i've tried resetting the fuel pump shut off switch... nothing but today im going to try and bypass it and see if the fuel pump shut off switch isnt bad... im just continuing on this wild goose chase lol

check all the fuses and make sure the sensor on the back of the intake(tranny side) isnt broken/and its plugged in
ive managed to bust that sensor while wiggling the tranny out before

The fuel pump relay can cause the fuel pump to not kick on. I had the fuel pump relay intermittantly go out on my '94 and it had the same symtoms. I swapped it with one of the other relays that are the same and the problem went away.

i've swapped the relay with every other relay under the hood and also bought a new one and tried it...didnt help...so today i tested the wires that plug into the pump and nothing there...if im correct there is another plug for it by the engine that attaches to the inner fender cover on drivers side..and still no power (i only used a test light) i swapped batteries and that took care fo my turning over problems.. cranks like normal now i think im going to try and run a wire and toggle switch to see if it will temporarily fix my fuel pump issues? or would that not be a good idea? thanks for all the help and input

what is this sensor?

its a camshaft position sensor only 93-94 have it the 91-92 have a block off plate there
if your fuel pump doesnt turn on with the key on you could also check the tiny fuses in the engine fuse box i had one go out after the exhaust tuched some wires making them short out

the small fuses under the drivers side dash? i didnt know any of them had anything with the fuel pump...i will check that tomorrow. i did for a temp fix wire the pump direct but i still have no start..i also realized it was now spewing gas out of the metal line direct out of the fuel pump...is there a way to fix just this as in change the lines for pump or do i have to buy a whole new pump now... so i checked the spark and im not getting any spark now either. does anyone have a diagram or picture of the camshaft positioning sensor? so i can more eaily find it. and now the spark and fuel issues...could both of these be due to a failed ignition contorl module?

sorry for the bad picture lighting is horrible back there...but is this the sensor you were talking about? and if so it doesnt look broke but is there a way to test it? now this is a long shot but what about being the eec? could that cause all of my issues(fuel pump not having power and not getting spark)? and is there a way to test the eec? along with the icm and the coil pack?? is there a method to testing them. if so that would be greatly appreciated knowledge!
