I sincerely appreciate all the help I can possibly get as I approach the end of my rope with this Ford Explorer. To recap the problem: Definitely temperature sensitive, starts like a champ in the morning (regardless of outside temp), as I proceed driving in normal city traffic for 30+ min., it runs superb (I run BP supreme fuel). After reaching my destination, I turn the vehicle off. 5-10 minutes pass and I attempt to start the vehicle once again. Spits and sputters as I rev the engine it does not smooth for many seconds. If I am feeling bold after a minute or so of reving the engine, I proceed in to traffic with usually very sluggish performance. I am lucky, I get to my next destination. On very hot and humid midwestern days, the vehicle will move about a block before stalling completely (usually right smack in the middle of a major intersection during rush hour). If this happens, generally I can expect to sit for 1-2 hours before the vehicle will run well enough to get back in to traffic. What a ***** this is, perhaps anyone can see why I am at the end.

This problem did not occur last year when I was in Montana. It started when I moved to Minnesota (another story entirely) end of last August. The problem I described above was present to a lesser degree in the winter, but nevertheless it never left me stranded. Problem has surely escalated in the warmer Minnesota months. I have babied this 94 xlt from the beginning with many problems related to relays (eec, and fp), and 2 fuel pumps replaced. Troubleshoot the recent issue I have replaced the following components:
DPFE sensor, air cleaner Temp sensor, and the IAC valve. I have cleaned the MAF sensor to extinguish a check engine light, and when I say that I have babied this thing, I mean all the routine maint., plugs and wires, PCV valve, air filters and the like. NO CODES are set as a result of this strange behavior. At no time is the computer aware of the poor running condition that can leave me stranded for hours. I am starting to suspect perhaps there is a faulty ignition device....but what about a sensor that reports faulty information to the computer, but is within operating range so that a code is not set??? HELP PLEASE!!

So after much time and research I am ready to point the finger. Based on my experiences and what I have learned from others, I will replace the fuel pressure regulator at a cost of $82.99 from Autozone.

Hey just for kicks have you inspected the coil pack. To see if there are any cracks that the heat might enter and overload the pack. If that happened it might not work again until it cools down. But just a thought.
