So I have a 99 Mountaineer. Long story short I ripped my bumper off snapping the bumper reinforcement plastic part. Instead of paying $110 on rockauto plus shipping are explorer reinforcements compatible?

On rockauto the parts look the same but part numbers are one number off. I read a few threads suggesting they were but just wanting to make sure.

I'm not sure either, but the 98-01 Mountaineer uses the same bumper. I think the reinforcement should swap between any of them. Ford makes revisions, usually the only part number change is the suffix(AA, AB etc). I often cross reference part numbers between sites like Rock Auto an Amazon, eBay etc, for price checking and sometimes confirming part numbers agreeing on other sites.

Checking with a Ford parts department is the best answer, I do that too when I'm very unsure. I have a parts many I've bought from since about 1979.

What sucks is in my city there are no mountaineers in the junk yards on explorers so getting a mountaineer one is not an option. I did look online and they were only $35 at the junkyard..

I believe the 99-01 Explorer and Mountaineer bumpers are the same (the metal part) just the plastic part on top is a bit different. I purchased a replacement used bracket from another member a few years ago for our '00 Mountaineer, after my wife got rear-ended, and the bracket came off an Explorer as I recall.

That's good.

The 99-01 Explorers had a couple of different bumpers, I hadn't noticed enough to guess if the sub structure is the same for all of them.

Just to be clear I am talking about my front bumper, Koda you said your wife was rear ended, you bought rear or front bracket?

Oh I missed that. IDK about the front bumpers. It wouldn't surprise me if the front bumper brackets were different between the Exp's and the Monty's. Can't help you there.

the mounting is the same on the truck side , what piece are you talking about? i had a 99 mountaineer and swapped the 99 explorer bumper on , i like the look better and the round fog lights ,

The metal bracket with the 4 bolts has a plastic insert that goes into the bumper and holds the bumper itself.

Does this help, I've got two old pictures of my 99's mangled bumper, the back side?

The two center sections look alike, but the Mountaineer doesn't have the metal extending out beyond the frame bolts. If you only need the metal part, that might work for the Mountaineer. The bumper itself has most of the support built onto the back of it.

I think it will work honestly. I will report back when everything is all said and done and give a final confirmation.
