95 Explorer 4.0 CEL w/214 code

This is an early 95 and the mech says it does not have a cam position sensor but it has a CID sensor. Ford says they only made them for 6months and then switched to the CPS. I cannot find the CID sensor for sale anywhere and Ford says they no longer make it. Am I going to have to do an engine swap because of a bad sensor?

Can he identify the part? I would like to see what he's describing. Makes sense...but I would like to know more.

He says it goes where the CPS goes but the sensor and shaft is one part. The sensor does not come off of the shaft like a CPS does. It also has a different connector. He thinks a CPS and shaft will fit but the wiring is different and ford does not have an adapter.
