Today my overdrive light started flashing and won't quit. Instead of a transmission problem I really feel its electrical. Does anyone know how to check the voltage regulator out???Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lori pelzel

First Off, Welcome!!
Second, please run a search by hitting the gray Search button. Search for "O/D light flashing", you will find loads of information on the topic.

I would go to Auto Zone or a similar parts place. Usually
they can, for free, check your alt. & volt.reg. while on the veh. Saves a lot of time & effort.
Good luck & hope its something simple.

Hi there, I had the same problem a few months ago on my 95 XLT, it resulted to be the battery, I changed it an voila!!!! Has the battery been changed since the Explorer left the FORD dealership????
Anyway, check the voltage on the battery. I am 99.9% sure you will only have to change the battery itself.

And welcome!!!!! :bounce:

my '95 used to do this from time to time. i would simply disconnect the battery for about five minutes (at the advice of an aamco tranny shop manager) and the problem was solved! this only happened two or three times, so i'm pretty sure there weren't any real problems with the tranny, and besides , the flashing light went away, so i was happy with it.

My explorer does the exact same thing. If I disconnect the battery, it goes away; the light stops flashing. It only will come back on if I drive fast on the interstate.

Just a thought.... but you might want to have the code read.... couldn't hurt.

I had a similar problem yesterday.

I was driving around 60 mph and all of a sudden the truck lurches a bit and the O/D OFF light starts flashing. My tach read about 3k when it should have read about 2100 at 60 mph.

about a minute later when I got into stop and go traffic, the shifting was very rough and noisy. At first, only the downshift would clunk and make the truck jump, but after a few accelerations the, uhhh...shift when accelerating would clunk too.

I pulled into a parking lot of the place I was going to and came out about two hours later to find my truck running the way it did before the troubles. It has been fine since (driven it about 50 miles).

Im thinking Ill go get a computer scan done.
