You can pop in the same type of radio that was in there, or maybe someone had an aftermarket radio and removed it.
Check the type of harness that's in the dash and post it here, we can tell you what you need.

this has two plugs, one grey with 8 plugs in one row and another smaller, black with 2 rows and 16 plugs. I saw a list of fords that had the same radios somewhere. maybe someone can help.

That's the standard radio for any second gen explorer and from most Rangers.

Just go to a junkyard, rip out a radio, as long as it's not the JBL system, make sure the pins on the back match, and it's the right one.

Most 95-2001 Explorer Radios will work, and most Ranger radios too.

what about other fords?

It's easiest to get the ones I mentioned.
But if you can find a radio with matching pins, it should work.

Honestly, why not add an aftermarket radio? Much better sound.

let me ask another question. do u know anything about the 2 coil packs on my 2.3 motor?
thanks

Larry, your best bet is to ask your coil question in the Ranger section, as that engine is specific to the Ranger.

Yes, please start a new thread to get an answer for that, since this is the Audio and Navigation system.
