i've already done a search and couldnt find a problem similar to mine, i have a 1996 4.0 OHV automatic, i bought it used back in july of '02 and the transmission has always acted the same- my problem is that the shifts are really soft and i believe it slips a a little too much when it shift when i have it floored, recently when i come to a stop its like its in neutral and when i start to accelerate, it revs til about 1500 rpm and then it slams into gear, i know this transmission is a piece but the previous owner said the transmission was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago, i also know this transmission is electronically controlled, so i was wondering if any of yall know what the problem may be.....computer related maybe?,

have you checked the fluid level?

yes, fluid level is good, dont feel like the converter is slipping cause most of the time it drives good, and when i come to a stop everyonece in a while when it feels like its in neutral, it wont gradually start going as though its slipping, it will "clunk" back into gear by its self, since this transmission is electronically controlled, theres got to be a bad soleniod or something, please help!!!! lol

The low/reverse servo has a leakage problem which is well documented. Newer repair kits have a specially made lip seal which replaces an older leaky o-ring seal. That often contributes to the problem you describe .. but in both R and 1. That can be replaced without taking the trannie out of the car. Good news ? It is not harmful, just annoying. Maybe that's it, maybe not. See what others think.

i am pretty sure thats the problem cause it is slow to go in reverse also, thanks for the help.

It also could well be that your filter is not properly seated and the pick up tube is getting air instead of fluid. Happened to me on my last filter change. Pretty simple to check it out and it sounds like your due for a filter anyway.
