96 explorer dr side power windows wont work

The windows have two clamps glued to them at the bottom, is that what is loose? The windows ride in guides at the sides. The one guide along the end of the door is the only adjustment. It has a single bolt near the end of the door, about 8" from the bottom.

Yes it is coming out of the clips on the regulator. The window rides in the side guides just fine. I dont know what the clips are supposed to look like new, but I would think the window has to slide inside the clips. My track does move front and back in the door, so maybe the glass is glued to the clips.

I tried hot glue, not even close to holding the window in place! The track jammed up in the rear side guide! Took out all the glue. Starting from scratch. I am going to buy some spray lube, and squirt the hell out of everything that moves in there! Going to look for some adhesive as well, maybe silicone?

Use WD40 for the side guides/felt. Spray them just before you wash the truck each time.

That would be kind of a pain, don't ya think? To take the door panel off every time it gets a bath. I think you think I am referring to the ones up high, when I mean the side guides inside the door itself. I just got back from the store with some goodies to try in the morning, spray lithium grease, and some epoxy for the clips. Hopefully I don't shatter the window!

phone around to a couple of glass shops... I was able to get clips for my GM a long while back.

The side window guides don't have any lubricant on them, they are lined with a felt material. If those aren't in perfect condition, they can and should be replaced. I have a few spares of the short adjustable pieces.

I looked at mine, and they look in good shape. They might be in need of adjustment though,. should they be snug on the glass when the window is all the way down? You referenced an adjuster bolt on the rear side, 8" from bottom.
The track that the window sits in is what concerns me the most. It seems flimsy, like its worn out, been bent from getting jammed up. It just rocks side to side a lot.

Rocks w/o window in it. Rocks towards ext door panel, and int door panel. As in drivers side to passengers side. Not bumper to bumper.
Don, I appreciate the time and effort on this you have given. Thanks!

The window shouldn't rock left to right if the guide is tight enough, it only moves sideways in the one slot(bolt). The two brackets on the bottom of the glass should be tight, those I've seen didn't move at all. I would suggest working on those first, you might have to change the glass. The brackets should be bolted or riveted to the regulator horizontal bar.

I bought a new LF glass for mine two years ago, but haven't installed it yet. Those brackets are hard to hold stable while hammering out the rivet center pin. I need to use an impact tool to knock those out. Night,

Reviving from the dead... Prefer to keep stuff in relevant threads, sorry if I woke anyone up... :)

My truck's driver side window is acting up, want to know if anyone has thoughts relating to the subjects of this thread.

When cold outside (the colder, the worse it is) my driver side window gets verrrrrry slow after about 2" of travel down, nearly stops, then chugs down slowly until about 2" from the completely open position, then speeds up and opens. When raising it, it has no delay. Speed on teh 1-10 scale: probably a 1-3.

If it's warmer outside- like over 65*F it still does it, but speed it an 8-9.

I have sprayed the tracks with both wet and dry silicone, and it hasn't really helped. I was unaware of the adjustment on the tension, I will probably try that. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue and found out what was wrong? Motor dying, bushings, binding...

TIA!

Joe, I also have an issue with my LF window in cold weather. Mine will stop at the 2" mark when it's cold, after I help it or keep pushing the button, it will go down.

I think that the guide adjustment has something to do with it, as well as worn motor or gear drive. My truck was rebuilt before, so I likely have past window issues from it. I hope to change my window some day soon and replace the plastic gear drive balls/bearings. I have a new glass piece already as my LF door is a 1991 and has many scratches in it. I'm not sure if the guide adjustment should be tighter or more loose. I have been spraying the glass edges each time with WD40 just before washing the truck. Regards,

Thanks Don- yeah- similar here. Funny thing is, before (like last winter) I could help push down and it seemed to aid a little- now it doen't help at all, which is why I'm leaning towards motor/motor component. I was tied up all weekend which sucked- it was 40-45*F here all weekend, it would have been awesome to tear it apart. :(

Do you know if I can use a passenger side motor, or are they side specific? I would assume that those would have many fewer cycles than a driver side if I pull one from the boneyard...

The motors are the same for each side, two per vehicle. I know that the older pre 95's have a cable system in the back doors, I don't know if they made the change in 95 or 98 to the same type as the fronts. I think that the plastic bushings in the gear drive of the motor are the main parts to worry about. I swapped motors in this LF door twice when it happened in my 93 truck, and again when I rebuilt this 99 truck. The motors have been equal, so I think mine is related to the window guides or the plastic bushings.
