96 explorer Transmission

The sticker on the door says it has a 4r70w (u) but it has a 4.0 in it. From what i read that trans only came in the v8 explorers. can anyone confirm this thanks.

Yes the 4r70w came with the v8 and has 4 speeds, the 5r55e should be what you have. If the door was replaced the sticker may be wrong, compare the vin on the door to the one in the window. For reference:

checked door and dash vins and they are the same so original door.
