96 Lower ball joint removal

I am trying to do lower ball joints on my 96 sport. I dissasembled the front end and after separating the lower arm and steering knuckle with a pickle fork I got the stud loose in the knuckle but there is not enough room to raise the lower arm to pull the stub out of the knuckle. I cannot get the large part of the ball joint out of the lower arm at the time. I removed the ring clip but the large stud is rusted in good. Anybody that can give a suggestion as to how to get the joint out would be great
