if you have drum brakes, make sure your brakes arent dragging normally.
i would take the wheels and drums off and inspect all the springs and linkage of the brakes. if very corroded, disassemble and lubricate. re-adjust the rear drums.

see if that helps.

if not, look at the pedal mechanism under the dash. if everything seems in order there, i would tend to beleive one of your cables is seizing up.

k i fixed it and i felt so fricken stupid when i came accross what it was lol last year my dad strung up my right side cable because it was rubbing on my shock so i un strung it and WAHLAlol felt so retarded

Some years have a metal clip from the U-bolt to the cable that is the correct length to keep the cable from rubbing on the right side shock. My 03 had one from the factory and you should be able to order one from any Ford dealer.

k so i guess i didnt fix my problem ARRG does any one know what it would cost for new drums and pads or to just get it fixed ?

I maybe be wrong, but your truck may have recall on the parking brake. Mine was 94 and they were doing something with the parking brake pedal.

good luck

drums and pads

i just recently replaced the pads and shoes on my 01 ranger and i didnt spend more than $60 on all the materials as far as the drums take them to a local shop to see if they can be "turned" which will provide a smooth clean surface for the new pads and is a bit cheaper than new drums...:D
