nevermind, i just saw the audio folder and someone already made a post similar.

I believe the 96 uses a 6.5" subwoofer. My 99 uses an 8" subwoofer and JL Audio makes a perfect replacement for it. To be sure, I'd pull the trim off the right rear and take a look. Remember, you have to remove the entire trim piece...not the small piece over the subwoofer.

Mods...this may get a better response for the OP in the Audio section.

should i order it? I noticed its only a 5 litre air and the stock one has 9 litres? what will be the difference between the two?

The 9 liters is the volume inside the box. This converts to ~0.3ft^3. The sub posted above is recommended to use a box that is 0.176ft^3. Thats for maximum efficiency though. Unless you build a box that is matched for each sub, its rare that most people actually achieve this.

My recommendation. Don't worry about the volume requirements. Focus on the fact that your sub may not fit due to it's depth.

so you don't think that sub will fit? Will it sound good if the box is too big for the sub?

It will sound fine. These are only recommendations for getting optimal sound.

My recommendation, just buy, install it, and be happy.

BUT, if you arent happy, there is always the possibility that you can add some expanding foam to the inside of your box to reduce the volume.

If the early box is the same as the later box for depth, that sub won't fit without a mounting ring. No maybe's about it. I'm thinking you might be better off opening up your box for the 8" sub and using it instead. I think that's been done successfully here.

It could be done, but last time I went to the junkyard, I found lots of later 2nd gen sub boxes. I'd just buy one than cut that hole bigger.

that would be the way to go if you can find one.

Nah, not looking to modify, i have 3 other cars to do that too. I just want to fix the sub cause its annoying.

Find a good one at the junkyard, if there are any around. I think i paid about 5$ for one.

The dealership may still sell them, some SHO guys have used explorer ones.

Or, another option the gen 2 SHO owners have used is the JL Audio 6W0, but they are hard to find
