First of all Hi!
i'm a new member to this forum.

OK here is my problem, my 96 explorer failed to start a couple of days ago, i did not heard the fuel pump so i checkt all the fuses ,they were fine, i went and bought a fuel pump relay at my local for dealer $11.Got the new relay installed and the explorer started fine, lasted 2 days without problems, but yesterday it did the same it didn't wanted to start ,so i went again bought the relay but to my surprise it doesn't start ,so i can't move the car right now,im stuck.
A friend/mecanic told me it could be a faulty fuel pump.I need to know if thats true cause i don't want to buy a $200 fuel pump and then find out that it was something else.
thanx

Welcome!

Could be a clogged fuel filter causing the fuel pump to work too hard and burning the fuel pump and/or relay.

Although a clogged filter can cause these probems, it typically will prove fatal to the pump. Even if replacing the filter allows the vehicle to start/run the pump will fail within a few hours of use. I've seen this happen several times. Providing everything else is in working order, from your description, it sounds like you need a new fuel pump.

Definitely don't go the route of new fuel filter. One day last year our '94 Explorer just suddenly began to lose power.......after sitting for a few minutes we could start it up and floor it and go along just fine until letting off the gas. Took it in right away and had the fuel filter changed. Ran fine until a month ago when it happened again, only this time I was alone with my 2 boys on the interstate. After another hour, I finally made it the last 10 miles I needed to go. (lol) So, once again, we changed the fuel filter (we assumed it needed it due to clogging up with dirt since we live in the country). Well, needless to say it happened again yesterday. And like many other posts I have read, I believe now that it is a fuel pump problem after it gets heated up due to extended periods of driving. Hmmmmm..........seems to be a lot you out there also having the same dilemma.........and that really makes me MAD! lol.....hasn't Ford been told about this problem yet? Anyway, after writing a book (lol) I say go with the fuel pump! Good luck!

I did went with the Fuel pump,i'll let u know tomorrow, thanx!

Any luck with the fuel pump? I'm changing mine this weekend and wonder if you have any advice or lessons learned and who you bought the pump from. See several posts saying not to by the cheapest pump.

Just talking generally - can you hear the pump being primed when you turn the key on (not all the way to crank the motor)? My Tauras is experiencing something similiar, but it is a switch that connects from the fuel pump accident cutoff switch in the trunk to the controller under the cover above the radiator.

Just my $.02
