4404=AWD. There is no Low range in this case.

A 97 with low range would have a 4405. That case is 4wd.

You linked a fork for a 1356. That is a transfer case used in much larger vehicles than the Explorer.

The shift fork is a common issue. We have stickies in the transmission section about all this already. ;)

Glad you had the gumption to remove the case and split it yourself. :thumbsup:

Think this forum saved you more than $20 ?

If so, a great way to repay is to contribute, and become Elite. Once your Elite, you have many more options (like uploading photos and posting them) and the forum becomes much easier to navigate without ads, and large private messaging space, and many other options available. Were a close knit community here, and we welcome new members, and keep it clean. Can't say that about many places anymore.

:salute:

Yeah if you have one of those it def isn't an AWD.

I know the transfer case is 4x4 but the vehicle kicks itself into 4H when the tires slip and the badges say AWD.. I posted the pic of the fork because I could post the pics I made of the actual repair I did.. found out the only way to do that is to donate $20.00 was just trying to help out any one else who may have had the same issue.

4WD != AWD
sounds like a TOD t-case, which would not be an AWD t-case.

If it actually has the 5.0, somebody may have swapped in a TOD 4406.
