This is my first post, I have spent a couple hours bounmcing around and searching before I joined and posted. I fiancee just bought a used 97 Explorer AWD. (I'm a GM guy) She was driving down the road the other day on the interstate and he truck quit pulling, like it had been put in neutral. When placed in park the park pin clicks until the tranny speed slows down (like the T-case is in neutral). When we got it home (under it's own power with no OD) I imediatly pulled the T-case motor to check and make sure it was still functioning.. Everything seemed good. I put it back on and drove around the field and it still acted the same way. Drives like it is in 4-low. But when I turn the selector switch to 4 low it drives alot smoother. So I took it to the local tranny shop, I figured the OD solenoid went bad, but when he hooked up his scanner all it said was that thein dash switch was bad.. Also while driving it on the road (35 MPH 3,000 RPM) the OD light flashes... Any ideas? is this a usual proplem? The truck only has 140K on it. Please help.

(she saw me surfing around the sight and now want a TT and shackle lift with 31 or 32's... Great)
Thanks
Josh

He hooked it to his scanner and the only number he said popped up was for the in dash switch. (this was all over the phone) but I went ahead and purchased a new switch, when it come in I'll go put it in and see what he says then. Just thought that I would check to if anyone else has had this problem...

A bad switch would definitely make sense...c'mon, if you're a GM guy you should be an EXPERT at fixing 4W/AWD problems! :D

I should have elaborated a little more, My trail truck is a 75 K5 Blazer with a 454, SM465, and NP205.... I don't have electric nob's to fool with... LOL

I too wish it were the way it used to be...I always get a kick when I pop the hood on my dad's '52 Ford pickup...you see the motor...and there's maybe 3 wires, heh. SO simple. I'm just joking with you...I love old Ford's and Chevy's...they go hand in hand. I've always wanted to turn the clock back 50 years.
