97 Explorer 4x4 transfercase problem

Since we bought this truck new we had this same problem 3x. it will only go into 4low. When i shift to neutral and select auto or 4 high, it grinds like my old '32 when the clutch went out!

I removed the selector motor below and manually switched it to high. and it wont stay their, as soon as I put it into gear it grinds again. It did this 2x under warranty and ford fixed it now its way past warranty please someone help!
