Recently the radio stopped working in my 1997 Explorer after it sat for some time, last time I drove it the radio worked fine. Now it does not get any power. I thought it might be the HU so I swapped it out with a new aftermarket unit and while doing so I checked the wiring and found that the switched 12v wire does not have power. The constant wire does have power. I checked all fuses and they are all fine, just in case I replaced them all but still the same issue. I tested the radio by splitting/running the constant wire from car to 12v switched power on the HU and it worked though not getting audio from the door speakers, aftermarket sub that I installed works and gets audio. Could this be due to the HU being powered through the constant instead of switched power? Not sure of the specific Explorer model but it has Premium Audio with the 6 disc changer. Changer was getting power even when radio was not. I also removed the cd changer after testing everything as it was never used. Was thinking of running a new 12v wire from the battery or ignition though not sure if this would fix the issue with no audio going through the door speakers. Any help is appreciated.
