Hello everyone!! I am new to this so bare with me. I have a 97 explorer with two issues. My problem first developed with the horn. Sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't. Now when I push the horn I can hear a click or clicking sound from the driver's side hood area. Now problem two, the wipers which started a few months later than the horn. The problem first started when the delay feature quit working. The wipers would go about half way throught the cycle then stop. You would need to turn the switch back to off then on again to get them to go through the whole cycle. The delay setting doesn't work now. Later on, this same problem developed to the slow speed setting. However, when you turn the wipers off they stop where you turned them off--not going through the end of the cycle. Slow speed doesn't work now either. The fast setting still works, but you need to time them just right or they will stop and not cycle through as well. A click or clicking sound can be heard in the delay setting etc. Oh, washer fuid will come out but no wipers. I replaced the mulit switch a couple of years ago, and don't think it's bad again. I just replaced the motor, but no luck. Any ideas would help. If someone thinks it's a relay, bad wiring, or module I would need to know step by step how to check---thanks a bunch for any advice!!! Open to any idea about this.

Welcome to the forum, you came to the right place for information.

The wiper probelm may be caused my the multi-function switch going bad, I have had to replace mine for other problems in the past. I would assume the wiper motor is fine, if it works.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think it's the switch because I replaced it & the motor. Anything else you can think of would help--Thanks again

Have you tried to directly apply power to the horn to see if it works?

In reference tot he horn, I started to put a new one on, but thought I'd clean the contacts first. The horn started working fine. However, here we are again. Not working. My guess was that it didn't do anything because it was a hit miss--sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. I'm also wondering if the two might be related to each other? Like they share the same wire etc... Prob not because they didn't go at the same time.

Should be on the same wiring harness, so a possibility of that.

Oh we'll see when I get time thanks for the info.

Thanks Sams01 and Brooklynbay--when I get time I'll try to locate some spare parts at the local junk yard and see what happens?

Fixed at last

Went to the junk yard yesterday. Thought I'd let everyone know what the two problems were. I replaced all the relays to the horn, high/low wiper, etc... Turned it on and we are working now. Thanks for everone's help. Words of advice--if the the wipers & horn work off and on try the relays. I know the multi switch has been an issue as well with others. However, I would start by going to a scrap yard and start simple. Thanks again!!
