Thanks again in advance for the previous help. My Explorer is in great condition garage kept with only 100,000 miles on it. It started to have a rear back fire 1 week ago. It only happens when I try to accelerate fast and place a big load on it. It will not back fire if I slowly accelerate and when I am up to speed there is no back fire and it runs smooth even on the highway. I did my homework and I read it could be a number of things with the EGR system and components. I am trying to start from the cheapest option first and so I am trying to check all vacuum hoses but I cannot seem to find a vacuum hose diagram anywhere. I bought the Haynes book but it does not show it in any detail. I am hoping someone can help me out on obtaining that.

There should be a vacuum hose routing diagram under the hood on the core support, look between the hood latch and radiator, big long sticker with lots of info, and two languages, it will be there unless someone removed it or painted over it.

I really do appreciate the info, that definitely solved my problem. Keep up the good work it is definitely appreciated.

a backfiring under load through the intake manifold is almost always a lean condition
This points to a problem in the fuel supply, like a weak fuel pump, clogged filter etc.
When a fuel pump gets old, or the factory one is replaced with a "lesser" pump often the first sign of a supply issue is backfiring under load through the intake manifold
suspect fuel pressure
perform fuel rail pressure test

Any check engine light?

you need to test fuel pressure = free test
rent a pressure tester, perform test, write down the numbers, return the pressure tester
A lean condition will cause backfire usually through the intake
a Rich condition will usually cause a backfire through the exhaust
So the first thing to check is fuel pressure

5.0 vacuum hoses can be a little tricky since they are mostly routed under the upper intake manifold
There is a sticker under your hood that shows the proper routing and hookups

I really doubt a tail pipe backfire is an EGR issue without an EGR code in the computer memory

Either someone removed or it got old and fell off either way it's not there. Could you please take a picture and send it to me please. In advance. Thank You.
